Foreign students are often expected to have a B2-level of French, meaning an ability for an independent use of language.
Most often foreign students are expected to present a French language certificate. This can be either a DELF or DALF diploma, or a TCF certificate. The expected level of knowledge is B2 (European framework, CEFR)
DELF and DALF diplomas
DELF (Diplôme d’études de langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) diplomas are international diplomas of French language, recognised by the French Ministry of Education, and can be obtained anywhere in the world. The diploma is valid for life. In Finland, you can pass the diploma for instance at the French Institute.
TCF certificate
TCF (Test de connaissance du français) certificate can also be passed at the French Institute of Finland. The certificate is valid for two years.
